| What is the difference between Salsa & Mambo? The 2 dances have 4 beats in each measure of music. MAMBO first of of all is a stronger sharper version of Salsa, what makes it this way is how it holds the first beat..SALSA- Is a constently moving dance, which is looser.. Both come from the somewhat the same family of music, even though Salsa is danced at a faster beat. In most versions of Salsa's 1st beat is emphasized in the movements of a flick or kick before it takes a step. (yet there are many styles of Salsa depending on the latin country) Whereas in Mambo the first beat the "1" is a held beat and is danced through a hip movement. Both dances are unique, and sexy. MY professional opinion when choosing to learn the dance, (even though these days we can mix and match the two.) It is better to learn the Mambo first, to gain the skill of the music and movement and move on to the Salsa. |
